What G-d Demands Of The Jew Norman F Birnberg, USA |
| G-d instructs Jews to be compassionate and come to the aid of their brethren. Its a religious obligation - a mitzvah - to help one in need. It applies especially to debtors and the Torah insists humane feelings must override mercenary calculations of profit. For instance, you must return to a poor man his cloak before sundown so his nakedness will be covered. If you do not and he cries to G-d, it will not go well with you. Israel's leaders by their cruelty have uncovered their nakedness - their moral depravity before the world and for that punishment is appointed for them from Heaven from which they cannot escape. In a Jewish State, in a situation like the one at Beit HaShalom, humanitarian imperatives should override everything else. Ehud Barak may have have forgotten the Torah but G-d has not forgotten what he has done and he will pay the price. And G-d will bless those who suffer for the sake of His Great Name and give them their just reward. | |
